Where do I start?
Graduate schemes
Many employers in this sector run graduate training schemes – designed to attract and develop graduates to take on a specific role within the company, from be it in a head office or operational environment. Typical schemes could last anywhere from one to three years and at the end of the course you will find yourself immediately in a more senior role within the company. Training schemes usually recruit for a September start and as they are extremely popular it is a good idea to get your application in early. Other routes into retail
You don't have to join a graduate training scheme to enjoy a successful career in retail – many people come to the industry through an entry-level role and work their way up to more senior positions. This provides valuable experience and allows more freedom of choice in the roles you might want to take on.
Just remember, not all businesses are found on the high street; TV, internet and catalogue retailers also need people to produce the programmes, websites, catalogues and customer experience.
